This week I’ve been bidding farewell to my A Level students, cant help feeling sad as it’s that time of the year again when I part with those keen minds as they go off into the world some headed to Higher Education establishments, others taking a gap year, others promising to join me in the Academic circles in years to come, which is always flattering ofcourse. Who wouldn’t be flattered, as an Educator one likes to feel they’ve been a positive role model such that they’ve inspired posterity to want to follow their footsteps if you excuse the cliche. This brings me to an interesting ‘episode’ in my mundane life, this week I bumped into one of my A level students in a local Bank, who was very gushing to me ‘for having taught us Sir!’ Lest you get me wrong,I like to believe modesty has always been a hallmark of my personality. I was obviously ‘chuffed’ with these remarks, and the lass I wished her well. In a way,she made my day, so to speak, later on chatting to a colleague, we both remarked at how fulfilling our job can be,especially at moments like these when our former students are appreciative of the work we do. Makes you take a step back and reflect, and as my colleague Jo aptly remarked,’it’s not many jobs that you’re that appreciated!’ To which I responded, ‘well said my learned colleague!’ Talk of blowing one’s trumpet afterall, coming as it is from someone who’s been harping on modesty,- modesty my foot!.
Much as my former student was very complimentary,my only regret is I stumbled on my blogging craze a little bit late in the course, thus this outgoing A Level cohort havent really benefited from web 2.0 if you like. Lest it may appear to be a tired theme, nonetheless I remain convinced there is a vibrant place for web 2.0 in Educational establishments which phenomenon I will continue to exploit with current and future students, – and till next time, more blogging!
